Teen Dating Violence-How To Detect It

A study was released recently that showed that one in five high school girls has been abused by a boyfriend and that physical aggression occurs in one in three teen dating relationships. These figures sound shocking, and they are, but they corroborate a study that was done nearly 10 years ago that showed basically the same thing. Teenage girls are just as much at risk for dating violence as women are for domestic violence.

Here are some signs that a teen is involved in an abusive relationship.

1. The teen is no longer spending time with usual friends.
2. She has fewer Facebook friends.
3. She is less engaging than usual and acting more withdrawn.
4. Shows signs of physical abuse.

According to the study, a key component is young women are afraid to talk to their friends for fear of ridicule and certainly are not going to talk to their parents.
