At the urging of the local police department residents were using their Home Security Cameras to help catch burglars.
Last week a crime was committed in a Chicago suburb. The incident was captured on a home surveillance system. The local police chief is asking other residents in the area who have security surveillance systems to check their cameras too.
“The block watch program was started last month. Hinsdale residents who have security systems with cameras are asked to let the police department know so their help can be enlisted when police are trying to solve neighborhood crimes.
The voluntary program asks residents to register their outdoor surveillance cameras with the police department. If a crime occurs in the neighborhood police will ask residents to check their systems to see if they captured a picture that may aid in the investigation.
There is no charge to participate in the program and program participants are kept confidential, he said.”
