Nursing Home Elder Abuse

This is a story out of the United Kingdom about nursing home elder abuse.

Nursing home elder abuse is a problem everywhere. But this story is about a nurse who was sentenced to four months in jail for treatment of a 92-year-old woman in a nursing home.

The family noticed bruising on their mother’s arms but the management of the nursing home claimed it was due to the medication that the mother was taking. The family didn’t buy into that story and installed a small camera and hid it in her room at the nursing home. The camera had a motion sensor and the footage it captured was viewed by the family.

“The video captured footage of the nurse poking the victim in the head and face, telling her to “shut up” and “shut your mouth” on numerous occasions, and manhandling the victim in a heavy-handed manner.”

When the family showed the video to management they suspended the nurse and called the police. The nurse was subsequently given a four month long sentence which the family was very disappointed in.
