We have our own opinions about the National Organization for Women or NOW, as it is called, they advocate on behalf of women. In this blog posting that they have about campus sexual assault they mentioned women are returning to campus this month and instead of worrying about books, studying or which clubs to join they have to be concerned about their own safety.
“Sexual violence against women is a global concern, reaching into every part of society. College campuses are no different; a study by the U.S. Department of Justice declares that 1 in 5 women on college campuses have experienced a form of sexual assault.”
In many instances women are thought to bear the responsibility for preventing sexual assault by dressing inappropriately or drinking too much. Women are taught to use tools, like the much joked about “rape whistle” or the new digital age protection, smartphone apps, as a defense mechanism against potential predators.
Various types of legislation have been put forth, but in our opinion none of them will be effective. Sexual assault is already a felony. Everyone knows that it is wrong, yet the statistics show that it has remained constantly at the one in five level for a long time.
One of the sad things is 95% of all sexual assaults on campus go unreported and 97% of the perpetrators walk away without any punishment.
Prevention is obviously the key. Women can be assaulted anywhere, anytime which is why we always suggest that they carry a self-defense product with them preferably one that’s on a keychain.
Female students on campus need to learn how to defend themselves and should carry a self-defense product to ensure their own personal safety and personal security on and off campus, such as one of our Streetwise Pepper Sprays with you at all times.
http://www.selfdefenseproductsinc.com offers products such as stun guns, pepper sprays and personal alarms to improve your personal safety as well as products to help improve your home security like diversion safes and fake security cameras.
