Campus Sexual Assaults Still A Problem

Here is a story from the Boston Globe about Campus Sexual Assaults.

One American has likely been raped in the period of time it takes to count to 100 and chances are, that person is between the ages of 18 and 24. Chances are, that person is in college.

The odds of being sexually assaulted on a college campus — a mind-blowing one in five — have at this point been quoted almost to the point of dangerous irrelevance. The nearly 20 percent of college students who have been sexually assaulted somehow became a number without a face, a truth presumed inevitable and thus unworthy of much attention. For these survivors, the memory of sexual assault doesn’t fade — and the struggle continues past the closed door or rape kit.

Of the 135 rapes reported to Harvard between 2009 and 2013, only 10 resulted in expulsions. Eighty-eight percent of women raped on campus do not report the crime.

In their film, they try to get at why rape is so rampant on college campuses and why schools continue to protect student rapists. They speak with survivors, campus police, administrators, advocates, and activists, all of whom put forth a similar thesis: Universities cannot risk the public relations disaster, potential lawsuits, and financial losses that might result from being associated with a “rape problem.”

Elder Care Needs More Supervision

From the paper the Calgary Sun comes this story about Elder Abuse. The story says the lack of regulation of senior care staff is a drawback in facilities like the one where a Calgary senior was assaulted by three of his attendants, a city police officer said Friday.

Such workers aren’t bound to standards hospital workers are subject to, said Smiley of the force’s Elder Abuse Response Team (EART).

“At care facilities, it’s up to each organization to set the standard and there can be a high turnover.”

EART, formed in 2011, doubled its staff to four last January after handling 150 investigations last year, said Smiley.

But he said 80%-90% of complaints they receive involve abuse committed by family members, with the majority of it occurring in private homes.

Murder In Domestic Violence Cases No Mystery

Here is a sad story about Domestic Violence.

In less than a week, two separate cases of alleged family violence have left three parents dead and their children traumatized.

“No child deserves to grow up knowing that daddy killed mommy.”

Both incidents resulted in a mother’s death, allegedly at the hands of their husband.

However, he said it’s unclear what, if anything, the kids may have seen that night.

Immediate intervention is critical for these children to somehow help them begin the healing process.

Unfortunately, domestic violence is number one cause of death of a spouse. It is no wonder when the spouses killed that the number one suspect is the other spouse.

Burglars Need 8 Minutes To Get In And Out

This story from Limerick, Ireland claims the burglars don’t need much time to do their dirty work. 8 Minutes Is All They Need. In and out and they’re gone. That’s the average time a thief stays in the house they are robbing.

They came back from some shopping and sat down to a cup of tea and were watching TV. One of them had to use the bathroom which was upstairs. That’s when they discovered that their bedroom had been completely ransacked.

When police arrived they told the homeowner said it was the six homes that have been burglarized that night.

A small amount of cash was taken, but all of her jewellery. You can replace cash but it’s hard to replace a 53-year-old engagement ring.

Here are some tips on how to protect your home.

The first place they head to when they break in is the master bedroom. Here, they are looking for cash and jewelry.

They are not interested in TVs, silverware or any items big or small that might hinder their escape or something that might ever be traced back to your house when they try to pass them on for cash.

The most common way a burglar will enter your home is either through a front or back door. Before they try to gain access they may first just simply knock on your front door to see if anybody is home. And if nobody answers and the front door is locked they will proceed around to your back door and try to gain entry from there.

The biggest deterrent in this regard is having an alarm in your home. In a survey carried out last year, 82 imprisoned burglars were asked what kind of security features would stop them from thinking of robbing a house and 84% of them cited a house fitted with an alarm.

Burglars hate dogs, big or small it doesn’t matter. Get a beware of the dog sign and put it out front and even consider getting a dog bowl and chain and leave it by your back door.

OK, after all that and they still get into your home, they have eight minutes and they are heading straight to your bedroom so first and foremost please don’t put cash into drawers or under your mattress. If you do they will be found.

There is probably no way you can totally burglar-proof your home.

Nanny Busted By Hidden Camera For Child Abuse

Here’s a story about how a Hidden Camera Catches Child Abuser. Footage shows an Argentine nanny slapping a two-year-old boy while he was strapped in his high chair.

The child’s mother installed the secret camera after she discovered bruises on her young son.

She linked it to her smartphone so she could monitor the nanny while she was out of the home.

The neighbors had also warned the child’s mother that they often heard her two children crying when they were left alone with the nanny.

The nanny is facing criminal assault and child abuse charges.

Prosecutors say the video will be used as evidence against the 25-year-old.

Campus Assaults Are More Frequent Than Believed

This is a story the claims that Campus Assaults happen more often than you may think. National statistics show 20 percent of college students will suffer a sexual assault during their time on campus.

But, now a bi-partisan group of senators is looking to change that.
A group of senators who introduced the “Campus Accountability and Safety Act” Legislation that would hold colleges and universities accountable for reporting and addressing sexual assaults on campus. i

In addition to holding schools accountable for reporting, the legislation would provide the victim of a sexual assault with a confidential adviser, on campus, who answers only to that victim.

They got input from victims, law enforcement and colleges and universities across the country which they say, will keep campuses safer, and help families make an informed decision when choosing which school to attend.

Any woman who is on college campus does not carry a self-defense weapon with them is foolish, at least in our opinion. Statistics show that one out of every four women on a college campus will be assaulted at some point in her time there.

Burglar Busted By Barking Dog

In Fort Walton Beach, FL. a would be burglar was busted by a Barking Dog

A Fort Walton Beach man is accused of climbing a fence into a woman’s back yard, only to be caught by the woman’s dog.

She went to check on the dog and saw a man, later identified as Somchai Todd Whitman, climbing over her 6-foot privacy fence, the report said.

She said he had one leg on the fence and one leg touching the bench near the fence.

She noticed he had a knife and called for her boyfriend, who came out and saw Whitman stop out by the roadway, according to the report. The boyfriend told deputies that Whitman had folded a pocket knife and put it back in his pocket.

He is charged with burglary and trespassing.

It is a proven fact that the sound of barking dog is an effective deterrent to home burglary. When a burglar knows there’s a dog in the house he will avoid that house.
